Following the submission of an application for Pre-Planning Advice and a written response from the Shropshire Council Planning Officer, a meeting was held on the Daffodil Lane site on 11 March 2024. This meeting was attended by the Planning Officer, the Committee’s Architect and representatives from the Liverpool School of Architecture.

The general principles of the proposed development were discussed and the Planning Officer confirmed that a new Village Hall would be an appropriate form of development on the site and that, whilst full detailed plans are required to fully assess the proposal, the proposed design is also acceptable.
There are three main areas to be reviewed:
Highways – a transport statement will be required showing details of access and parking.
Ecology – a scheme of landscape design and a bio-diversity assessment will be
required demonstrating how the project will improve “the net bio-diversity of the
site”. This will require input from a specialist consultant.
Scale and Orientation – in order to minimise the volume of the building when viewed from the east (i.e. from the Village) consideration to be given to the position and orientation of the proposed building and possibly the overall height of the roof-line.
The Planning Officer, who had never been to Bucknell, was shown around the existing Memorial Hall providing some background context including an explanation of the need for a new and larger Village Hall.
A full Planning Application is expected to be made before 30 April 2024.
